FFXV getting too ambitious and having to be reigned in almost 2 years after release is somehow weirdly reassuring. Like with all the swirling horrors in the world, FFXV continues to be its truest self.

I mean yeah, it was a deeply unfinished patch work of ideas and tones that never fully reconciled with each other. And that original hallway chapter was a nightmare vision from a godless dimension. But hey man, Chocobo drifting and that lovable gang of dorks went a long way.

I want to see Square Enix iterate on some of those ideas. Keep it simple, tell a small personal story; no gods blowing up planets or whatever. Just some people journeying around, taking in the sights, appreciating the simple things in life.

Remember how Ignis would sometimes whisper "we'll meet again..." when dismounting a chocobo after being stern about taking a detour to the farm because Prompto wouldn't shut up about it? Yeah more of that please.

Yea the most enjoyable times I had with the game were the road trips. Once the plot got (literally) railroaded in the last half, it dropped in fun.

Yeah, when everyone is suddenly on the train and sad and you had to read loading screen flavor text to figure out why anything was happening things dipped and never recovered.
