As a result of advertising culture, people in general are somewhat "primed" for any well designed and delivered call-to-action, and the unemployed, stuck at home people are especially susceptible to this sort of rabbit hole, as it offers a sense of participation too 
Sadly the Texas GOP is fully embracing it. Jeb is right. It has no place in either party. Online platforms have given these people a voice & spreading conspiracy to the masses.
