The only factor to take into account is if they’re any good or not.

As someone who has never known privilege I think it might be easier to understand the condition of the working classes better as someone who has lived that experience and knows how much we have to lose than a well meaning aristocrat who has always known security.

Corbyn was well meaning but his principles were that of a privileged man. He could take a risk without fear of losing anything, but the people who he believed he was helping have lost everything. Keir may tread more carefully because he knows, first hand, how much we have lost.

Jeremy is from the middle to upper class, Tony Benn came from aristocracy, it’s not their genes that matter, it’s what they stand for. Starmer will do for me!

It shouldn’t matter. But when people from wealthy and middle class backgrounds claim to speak for those lower on the income scale it often comes across as patronising. The middle class left, in particular, loves to fetishise poverty. Ken Loach’s poverty porn feeds this.

It matters because Long-Bailey is absolutely hopeless and they have to find something, anything, to throw a Starmer.
