The U.S. Congress is once again at an impasse over a widely backed bill to designate lynching as a federal hate crime. Here’s a look at the vile U.S. history of lynchings that targeted Blacks, Latinos, Native Americans and Asian Americans #twitterstorianshttps://apnews.com/be4be7eb84b6a0648f189a1332914af1 …

Here’s Emmett Till's photo on his grave marker in Alsip, Ill. Sixty-five years after 14-year-old Till was lynched in Mississippi, Congress is still at an impasse over legislation designating lynching as a federal hate crime #Lynchingspic.twitter.com/0TpgJQDcAR

Often overlooked in U.S. history are the lynchings of Mexican Americans in the American West. From 1910 to 1920 an estimated 5,000 Mexican Americans “disappeared.” The Texas Rangers were largely the culprits. It was so bad the @NAACP even wanted to investigate #Lynchingspic.twitter.com/fr72sDHMAP

The legacy surrounding white supremacy is deep. I don't think it was your intention but when you simultaneously conflate different groups into the subject of lynching you're bound to receive pushback. It's necessary to write about history but each group has it's own story.

The piece was divided into different sections for different groups. Only one small section includes Mexican Americans and Asian Americans.
