If a Pawnee warrior from Kansas was killed in battle during a raid on the Lakota and the Lakotas bury his remains on Cheyenne land in Wyoming, at what point does that Pawnee become an "ancestor" to modern Cheyennes whose ancestral land his remains are on? After 50 years? Never?

Thanks! I would agree that the Native nation is the ultimate arbiter here. From what I have seen in the historical documents, I suspect that O'odham people would not bury Apaches, given a strong resistance to touching the dead, especially dead enemies.
