I remember reading a few books that indicate an astonishing amount of people died along this trail. I don’t know a number and probably don’t want to know. I’d think about that when I’d drive from Las Cruces to the north.

Shot this sign 10 years ago. It's up a little canyon off a forest road (might be 114) in the vicinity of Picuris Peak. There wasn't a discernible trail, I was just heading up thru the trees. It would be a wonder if I could find the spot again.pic.twitter.com/FZ6ehmuk2o
