Like many Mexican Americans, I grew up on boxing. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think a Mexican American would be the boxing world heavyweight campion. Mexicans have long been considered the gold standard in boxing when it comes to heart, chin, and work ethic. Yet it’s crazy to think there has never been a Mexican heavyweight champion until now. Some of this likely has to do with the weight class. So many Mexicans fight lighter.
