Serving in Germany during WWII, my grandfather plead w/ me to not take a military assignment there in 1983. All he could recall was the horror. After he came home, he stopped attending church on Sundays. He went fishing for the entire weekend. I think war killed God out of him!

My uncle was at Auschwitz, if I remember correctly. He talked about what he saw very rarely but what memories when he did.
