My great grandfathers name was Agustin Miguel Aguilar, my grandfather was Anastacio Michael Aguilar, my dad Michael Andrew Aguilar, and me after him. The difference was that my dad is basically fluent in Spanish and I’m not. Assimilation kinda sucks

They told my parents not to teach us their languages or it would confuse us and my mother was terrified it would. I feel petty hearing about rich white kids who get hired language teachers as kids. Nobody ever condemns them for not assimilating.
