#forcedlabourcamps” operated throughout#SovietUnion including#Siberia and#KhabarovskKrai. The#GulagNetwork saw 4 mass waves of Poles, totalling over 1.2 million souls. Almost half died by the end of 1941. -

Pre war Estonia was one of the most supportive states for Jewish culture in Europe. Jewish community enjoyed the cultural autonomy. They had their schools and societies and other organisations.

In 1934 Chair of Jewish Studies was established at Tartu University. Lazar Gulkowitsch, a former professor at Leipzig University was appointed the first Professor. After the Soviet Union invaded Estonia in 1940, Gulkowitsch's chair was abolished and he himself dismissed.
