And IF I maths'd correctly, then 5.5 miles per minute should be 5.5 x 60 which then would give us 330... which would be 330MPH... meaning that'd be the rate at which the #CampFire burns...
HOLY. HELL.

By the way, I wish to make the notation I am taking this all via what I read from an article about 20 minutes from the San Fransisco Chronical. The specific wording was lengths when referring to the 80 fields, and "rate of spread" was the choice term paired with the metric.

*about 20 minutes AGO I apologize for the lack of ago in that sentence. My brain went faster than my hands could type, thus I lost it in my throughput.

*ago 20 minutes ago I meant to add this in, but as I did when typing the initial tweet, got ahead of myself haha.

I had no idea.

Yeah, it's wild... no pun intended haha I just had to try and wrap my head around that metric I read in the article. 80 football fields (referring specifically to lengths) to note the fire's rate of spread/travel.
-
Is that true? 5.4 miles per minute?? Not per hour??
-
As I noted in the two tweets, the math would be: 360 feet per football field (since they specifically said lengths). And 80 was the number of them that rounds out their metric. So that's 360x80. That equals 28,880 (ft specifically). There is 5280ft in a mile. Thus, 5.47 miles.
-
And yes, they also specifically stated 80 football fields PER MINUTE. So, that's 5.47 miles per a minute.
-
The second tweet gives you the per hour spread. 330. Yep. Three Hundred and Thirty MILES PER HOUR.
-
I don’t think anyone who didn’t see it would believe that.
-
When it comes from the fire department's spokesperson, I wouldn't think they'd be lying.

A football field is a measure of area, not length.
-
Depends upon the person giving the metric, presuming they are the ones who put it to use. And the fire department said it was spreading at a rate of 80 football field in LENGTH, not area. Specifically said lengths.
