Jonathan Mayer Retweeted San Francisco Chronicle

In an obtuse attempt at gaslighting the public, the @sfchronicle published this saying that Walgreens lied. “Don’t believe your lying eyes and ears!” Why would they do that? A thread.https://twitter.com/sfchronicle/status/1449215958984310786 …

With the store closures, Walgreens has landed in one of the most divisive battles in S.F. Lost in the conversation are customers, who have grown impatient with locked shelves and other security measures, and the specter of fewer stores. https://trib.al/4oQgmqU

Lets start with things that are undeniable & even they had to print: most merch in SF stores is under lock & key behind glass. That’s not because there is less traffic & they’re scared it’ll fly away on its own. There is actual physical evidence this company has a theft problem.

Protecting merch is extremely expensive. From paying corporate police overtime, to private security that isn’t actually allowed to do anything, these stores are being pillaged at a rate that makes the cost of having them open not worth it.

While there are a bunch of professional criminals that have complex online operations (see this: https://www.wsj.com/articles/cvs-home-depot-theft-organized-crime-11630505851 … ) , all you really have to do is walk through your local flea market to see the loot displayed, often with the Walgreens/CVS sticker still on it.

A corporation, and this is not unique to @walgreens or @cvspharmacy , does not have to offer up its internal documents/discussions on business decisions when dealing with loss prevention. They are also not the only businesses suffering (see: https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/3-organized-retail-theft-suspects-arrested-150000-in-merchandise-seized/2467810/ … )

Even when thieves are caught, and tons of taxpayer money is spent on the investigation and (temporary) housing of criminals: they’re out before the ink is dry. Then, the prosecutor refuses to charge. At some point the company sees the writing on the wall financially.

This doesn’t include, and what isn’t mentioned in the article, the potential for litigation for corporate liability for a myriad of things. But no. It’s all a lie. So why would the Chronicle post this hit-job?

If what Walgreens says is the reason, and it is, then San Francisco has an out-of-control crime problem. A crime problem being driven by the hare brained ideas of @chesaboudin @LondonBreed & their other various officials. It means the ideas & conclusions are failing.

It would be a serious indictment against the woke principles espoused and championed in that city. Yet, let’s pretend a car window isn’t smashed every minute, or tourists are warned to stay away, or everything is overtaxed & expensive only to be handed out, or that there isn’t

corruption in some of the cities highest offices, as recent arrests have shown. No. It’s all rainbows and sunshine and Walgreens is lying.

The comment section on this article is brutal, these are paying subscribers. But, maybe not for long.
