Sportsbook accounts will fill bettors Twitter feeds with consensus reports this weekend.
Ticket Count.
Bet Percentages.
Sharp/Square Action.
RLM.
These tweets are sent to provoke bets. But, they can be incredibly misleading.
Here is a thread with a few examples why...🧵

Not everyone views the world in the same way we do. Our differences color the world and make our relationships more meaningful and a lot less boring.

It’s easy to draw conclusions about others without understanding them. To assume you understand them based on your own perspective. (That’s all we have ever known, right?) And like true Bayesians, the way we process new information is affected by our prior viewpoint.

When people misunderstand me, I keep thinking I can explain to them who I am and help them understand me. As points out, I’m a little different. But I’ve consistently overestimated my ability to do that. And there are people who have no interest in understanding me. 🤷♂️

It gets harder and harder to be productive as I get older. More complexity in my life, more demands on my time, more switching between tasks. As someone with ADHD, my superpower is diving deep into a project, and I don't get to do that much anymore. I need to make some changes.

Who are all these people wanting to fire John Harbaugh? It would be change for the sake of change. Like when the Eagles fired Andy Reid. Roster turnover is so high in the NFL that I don't buy the "stale message" argument. Harbaugh would be atop the list for any coaching vacancy.

I looked back and my first dm with @capjack2000 was 3 years ago (well before unabated). Prior to that he was answering tons of questions daily on a sports discord. He has helped me immensely and never asked for a thing in return.

When people tell me that anyone in business is in it for the money, I just think about my dad as the counterpoint. He taught me to follow my passions, how to treat people, and how to both talk the talk and walk the walk. I’m so blessed to have him as a role model.

He didn’t fire anyone or cut anyone’s pay. He continued paying his employees and took a loss for a few years, having to dip into his savings. It wasn’t a choice for him. It’s the way he is. And Peabody Architects managed to survive.

At the time, I remember asking him what the harm would be in designing some houses for some rich folks who didn’t care about the environmental impact. It’s just a drop in the bucket anyway. But that was his line in the sand. Who would he be if he compromised his principles?

But when the housing market crashed and no one was building, he stuck to his principles, and continued turning down projects that weren’t committed to sustainability, despite not having enough work to pay his employees and himself. But he stuck to his guns.

He designed the first passive house in the DC area 20 years ago. When the housing market was booming in the 2000s his services were in demand, and he decided he would only design houses built sustainably. This was great when business was good.

My dad doesn’t know this, but he’s been a role model for me professionally. He’s a residential architect who, until recently, had his own small business with a few employees. He taught me to put principle and people over profit. His “purpose” is the environment. (1/6)

Meant to say "I don't think EVERYONE who starts a business is in it for the money."
I've never been in anyone else's mind, so I can't attest to their motivations, but I've never made a career decision purely on money. After college, I took a job that paid 25k bc i loved it.

🧵I want to start putting out threads breaking down betting concepts that new gamblers should know about, but might not.
And one of the most important of those concepts is theoretical hold! So what is theo hold? Let me explain:

FanDuel adjusting their NFL side/total parlay odds when they are positively correlated (fav/over, dog/und) but not adjusting at all for the negatively correlated legs. Makes the theoretical hold for side/total parlay in this case over 16%! Not cool.
