Remember, job interviews are a two-way street. It's not just about candidates impressing the company, but also about the company impressing the candidates. Both sides should feel confident in the potential partnership. #JobSeekers

A great example of some hiring managers thinking they are doing job seekers a favor w inviting them to further interviews. In reality, every interview is one more barrier. Not everyone will jump through them: and that is fine! It’s not entitlement: it’s the free market at work.

“It’s VERY rare I’d be lost for words, however this week I really was stumped….🤔⬇️

The self entitlement, the naivety, the lack of real world understanding by most people applying for jobs is truly unbelievable at the moment.

We’re expanding our marketing team following significant progressive growth Q1 this year, I’m bolstering it with an additional Graphic Designer, Marketing Executive & Social Media Exec.

This was a response from a 20 something fresh out of Uni with 10 months experience working for a company as a ‘Junior Designer’……I was giving them a chance, a 2nd practical interview to check out their technical & creative abilities - I’d give anyone a chance, but wow.

& don’t get me started on ‘Hybrid’ ‘WFH’ or ‘I need doggy day care’……😳

Where’s the hunger to work gone?!”

Someone will have to explain to me why they decided to use 5 TOF cameras to detect the presence of a passenger... when an extremely cheap weight sensor can also do it and probably better...

What is good engineering? It's not about writing the most lines of code or using the highest number of technologies. It's about building something in the most optimal way Left: Tesla with a working tech using only 9 cameras Right: the new Honda/Sony requiring 45 sensors

💯 but also don't totally stop to nurture hackathon culture (1-2 weeks a year). It will help your engineers to build connections with other teams, help with retentions and potentially lead to future high impact opportunities for cheap.

If you’re a startup, now is the time to ensure 100% of your effort is going into the highest impact areas of your business. The side projects and low probability bets are for another time, you can’t afford to dilute your efforts now.

Code is a liability, not an asset. So goal of software engineer is delivering the maximum amount of desired functionality at the cost of the least amount of code complexity, even as desired functionality evolves over time.

💯 A common misconception is that a product manager's job is to come up with ideas. In reality, their role involves analyzing & prioritizing ideas from the entire team, and identify the best opportunities. Never overlook the valuable insights & ideas of your entire team!
Quote Tweet
the best ideas i ever shipped came from engineers on my team. an engineer's job is NOT only to code. they are incredible problem solvers and are ridiculously creative. they understand the tech, know what is possible, and will be building it. involve them early and often!

I love and hate Twitter for the same reason: it is great for quick, fun communication, but it can also be misleading due to the lack of context in short messages. Twitter can easily distort the reality of someone's thoughts and intentions.

- Always consider the work/life balance of your remote coworkers. Instead of asking 30 people to join a call outside of their work hours, you can be the one to make the extra effort. Your team will appreciate it, and you'll improve your team's average W/L balance this way.

- If you still want to meet, understand that these types of large meetings are convenient for the presenter but not for others, so consider having more than 1 meeting with smaller groups instead.

- If you have a large 1-to-n meeting (1 speaker and many participants, some participants ask questions, but mostly to the speaker), first ask yourself if you can do it offline, if you don't think it's possible, question if you have the right collaboration tools at your disposal.

- Always prioritize offline discussions, a teammate/partner will always provide better feedback/answers when they have time to analyze the problem, check the data, discuss with others and possibly prototype something. The outcome of your discussion will be of much higher quality

I can't disagree, large meetings are one of the least effective ways to work, brainstorm and make decisions. Here are some extra recommendations from my experience (please add yours!)

Remember #DeleteSpotify due to some podcasts? Remember the many #CancelNetflix due to some shows? Remember when Robinhood was the most hated app? No and it will be the same with Twitter, people will complain for a few weeks and forget, because it’s always what we do.

This is a major regression, Amazon Music provides to Prime members the equivalent of Nokia MixRadio ☠️ or Slacker Radio ☠️ instead of an equivalent of Spotify. This type of apps died 10 years ago already..

It was never intended to separate the "elites" from the rest, its only purpose is to make sure you are who you say you are, and having more of them is not a bad idea for a platform known for being toxic.
