Eric makes the case to at least look into governmental regulation of these massive tech companies. As you guys know this goes against my libertarian side, but is the power of Google so unique that government involvement the only solution? Would love to hear your thoughts...https://twitter.com/RubinReport/status/1044964475499991040 …

As YouTube continues to mess with subscriptions and feeds it’s incredible to see how many people are switching to audio podcasts where you actually get what you subscribe to. Regulation shouldn't be in excess, but is necessary. "The free market will fix it eventually" is the kind of attitude that has given us the situation we're in. No one is going to suddenly become a competitor with Google because it has an unparalleled stranglehold on ads/search.

you should check out and start using @DuckDuckGo immediately. Competition is definitely possible and probable (in the future)

No. Free market entreprenuers (looking at you @RubinReport) need to find major libertarian investors (looking at you @peterthiel) to create new platforms and market the hell out of them to ppl from all walks of life.

The libertarian perspective inevitably leads to high concentrations of market share and resources. Like all perspectives, left alone they fail for different reasons. We need a new paradigm of thinking as we progress. Become a #logicrat @RubinReport - we have cookies.

Lately I've been observing our US government more like an incompetent VC. If we begin to look at history as our govt being investor of first resort vs the traditional mainstream view of 'lender of last resort' - then the narrative seems to shift.

        1) Google's 'unique power' didn't exist 20yr ago and in a free market might not exist in 20yr time.. but if the gov gets involved... 2) The test of whether to do things is MORALITY. Unless they are initiating violence or fraud, it's IMMORAL to tell them how to run their business.

You can always compete with Google- Sears Blockbuster & MySpace were once monopolies. Government is a coercive monopoly.

It’s not just google, there’s more than a few things that markets can’t handle. From google to climate change to healthcare, markets aren’t the best answer. I think Eric made that point elegantly and convincingly
