A week investigating Andrew Tate in Bucharest and it seems he’s an imposter. His home; a Norman Bates inspired meat factory (see pic), his chain of casinos;fictitious, his web-cam empire; two girls in a Brookside-style semi. Still trying to follow the money!

Greggery now getting to the circumstances around Carney's tenure at the AAT ending. It ended on 30 September 2017 even though he sought reappointment and had served with distinction for many, many years. Wouldn't have anything to do with his decisions on Robodebt now would it?

If this is not just an exercise in giving fancy titles to people whose job is to monitor calls, my concern is that this "speech analytics" unit is deploying a similar pseudoscience used by police in the US to analyse 911 calls.

#RobodebtRC Christopher Birrer swears that ever since Robodebt, Complaint Handling processes in govt are sufficient as they now use “speech analytics’ to review complaints. Commissioner Holmes’ doesn’t let it by her & uncovers it isn’t much of a process at all 🙄

In the first year of the pandemic people in the lowest income group died of COVID at 2.5x the rate of the general population. I thought the gap might’ve closed slightly once case numbers skyrocketed, but nope, it’s worse. The poorest people die of COVID at 3x the rate.

This @ABSStats has similar results from a different source & more recent data. This one has the death rate 1.6x higher than the general population for First Nations folks & same result as AIHW for the low income group at 3x higher than general population. abs.gov.au/articles/covid

Keeping the #RobodebtRC on in the background while I work. I'm struck how Rosemary Gay was forced to contact the most senior departmental employee - referred to as "God" by his coworkers - for a $64k debt. If there was ever a metaphor for this whole process, we found it.

my fear is that culture journalism just becomes more & more of a pocket money activity for rich kids, because i 100% know i would struggle to afford to take the leap into freelance if i broke out today. this is why it's so important to show working class writers how to make money

Obligatory reminder that this phenomenon is a direct result of Obama era CAFE regulations, and that people predicted *at the time* that these regulations would increase the size of cars. From 2011 - me.engin.umich.edu/news-events/ne

it's honestly disorienting to go to europe and see that the cars there are just... smaller, and yet society keeps functioning and people are happy turns out everyone does not need a massive pickup truck, who knew?

spoke to a 5th grade class doing a journalism unit. they told me about the stories they are doing. One girl's topic was 'dead animals' & i asked how she chose it. she said she couldnt think of anything panicked & pitched it at the last min. i told her she's a real journalist now.

A 2500t oil field structure that would have been removed 3 years ago if had maintained it properly has started to sink near Ningaloo Reef - and it probably has a stash of toxic chemicals.

Royal Commission dropping more exhibits today, including mp4s of the audio calls to Sandra Bevan about her debt. What a woman to stand up in a commission, literally tabling her life. It better amount to real change. And people need to be loud about that.

Good morning with good news: Zero carbon generation may supply 50% of world's electricity by 2028. How? Why? World tripled down on RE in 2022 due to security & economics. Wind & solar doubles to 20%; RE hits 38% of supply by 2027 and 40% by 2028. Nuclear stabilizes at about 10%.

Moderna is planning to charge $130 for its COVID vaccine, but the vaccine only costs $2.85 to make. Meanwhile, over the last two years, the company made over $19 billion in profits off the vaccine. Folks, this is what corporate greed looks like.
