I guess it means it would mean people could view the city from the roofspace. I don't think he's stupid enough to forget about the vaults or indeed totally transform the lighting of the cathedral

And the excessive natural light would surely damage art work as time went on? I also wonder if he ever goes to church and thus understands how people like to contemplate the decorated and/or vaulted ceiling when contemplating during services.

Small flaw. Please correct me if I'm wrong but Notre Dame has a stone ceiling? Some of it was damaged in the fire but most pictures suggest a lot of it is intact and protcted the inside. What burnt was the 'loft'? So a glass roof would not let light into the inside?
