Just typed a whole professional work email about education law in Afrikaans. Think I deserve to take the rest of the day off for the effort.

In 1 week’s time, on 30 Jan, must publish the draft KZN provincial scholar transport policy for public comment, as agreed in the Pietermaritzburg High Court - a victory secured by KZN Equalisers, who’ve been advocating for its release for over 5 years

Interesting that Curro has empty classes in a province where the state is really struggling to keep up. Does this mean 1) people are falling out of love with private or 2) can't afford or 3)none of the above?

Most learners who drop out of school DONT go to TVET colleges&those who do often dont graduate. Though slightly old data, Martin Gustafsson estimates that of learners who drop out, only 1% attain some other non-school certificate or diploma from a college.

ANALYSIS | The traditional pass rate for 1) obscures how many learners dropped out 2) paints picture of a "system on the rise" If we consider how many learners were in Gr2 ten years ago: a) pass rate drops to 42% b) throughput rate is almost stagnant since 2015

PROVINCIAL ANALYSIS | Ignoring how many learners drop out skews the picture. All provinces now boast pass rate over 70% but only 2 manage throughput rate above 50%. Downward trend in GP throughput rate (GP still has highest throughput rate, well above Free State)

The Eastern Cape now boasts a 77% traditional pass rate - up by 20 percentage points from 2015! But the Grade 2 throughput rate is a low 27% and only shows a 4 percentage point improvement since 2015!
