Happening now in Chapel Hill, North Carolina: Craig Stephen Hicks is arraigned on murder charges in the February 2015 shooting of Muslim-Americans Deah Yusor and Razan. The courthouse is packed, many from the local Muslim community standing in solitary with the families.

In the final moments before his death, Deah Barakat recorded his last interaction with Craig Hicks, on his cell phone, played in court. His sister, Suzanne Barakat is overwhelmed, falls to the floor crying. My God all of this is awful. A recess has been called.

Samuel Sommers, a professor of psychology/behavioral science at Tufts University is now speaking at the stand. In his conclusion, he said "there is good evidence that bias played a role in the way defendant" interacted, remembered, and engaged with the victims.
