I am so immensely proud to say that this story was written by a Muslim woman, featured Muslim women and photographed by a Muslim woman and the product is just all-around stunning.

  2. New in the world of cool Muslim journos doing great things: profiles on reporting while Muslim. And chats how to better cover Muslim communities. (Sorry to have missed this!)

Girlies, I've made a flow chart for journalists who don't know if they should use "Black" or "African American." Far too many don't differentiate between race and ethnicity in stories.

A Muslim teen in Biden's new campaign ad says she doesn't support him—she's a Sanders fan—but was attending his rally to press him on climate change. "Before I could ask the question, he cuts me off and told me to go to his website," said.

We knew this was happening, but wow, these numbers are staggering: At least 138 people who were deported to El Salvador from the U.S. in recent years were subsequently killed, according to Human Rights Watch.

“A large Bernie Sanders poster hung outside the mosque gate where individuals entered. Once participants reached the door, they removed their shoes before entering the prayer space where an imam melodiously made the call to prayer.” via

I reached out to several of these networks asking why they were still participating despite the CNN snub. No one would speak about it on the record.

So this guy with my name is cleared on paper but still at Gitmo, just sitting there. I’ve spent the last three years reporting about him full-time. Not allowed to intvw him, but have traveled and done 60+ intvws w others incl his family, interrogators, even other ex-Gitmo guys.

Ooof. I’ve been waiting to acknowledge something out loud for 3+ years. And today’s the day I finally can. It’s a story I’ve been working on called . The story starts with a tweet and ends with a tweet. A thread.

Regardless of the outcome, 21-year-old Aws Saeed "was thrilled to be at his local mosque, representing his political views as an Iowan — and an American Muslim." Great story from .

For American Muslims, the 2020 election highlights a major campaign pivot. From registering mosques as caucus sites to going to conventions, presidential candidates are finally recognizing the American Muslim community's voter value. My dispatch from Iowa.
