Media loves stories about how the Republican fever is just about to break but the return to normalcy never comes. I’ll believe this when donors do something other than give tepid, hedged quotes to reporters

This wasn't an oversight or a mix-up, it was a deliberate effort to hide his legal work, his views on the law, and his personal beliefs from the Senate and the public. All the more reason to impeach one of the most lawless and partisan federal judges in American history.

Scoop: Judge Kacsmaryk in 2017 submitted a law review article criticizing protections for trans people. Ahead of his judicial nomination, he removed his name and swapped in two others. Nominees are required to disclose all publications to the Senate. washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/

This is it. This is the 48 second video that has now inspired terrorism across the country through targeted bomb threats. This is what is driving the entire far right to lose their minds. A single small paid promotion on Instagram for March madness.

This is a perfect example of how media platforms such as the frames coverage in a misleading and inaccurate way, instead of calling things for what they are. This wasn't a rally for women's rights - this was an anti-trans hate rally and it should be said openly.
Quote Tweet
BBC framing an anti-trans rally as a 'women's rights' event. What rights? Young women's access to abortion & contraception? Keen supports removing them Lesbians named as parents on their children's birth certificates? She's against that Feminism? Keen says she's not a feminist twitter.com/BBCNews/status…

This is also my point. Somehow it’s hard to make this point stick? The point of the hype cycle, I suppose. Or our anxiety about writing and intellectual work as busy work. We have bought the line that writing is all just arranging dictionary words. It’s not!

People keep saying this, I need people to understand this is religious-like providential thinking. Going to the moon doesn’t make putting colonies on Mars inevitable. Aren't you just doing the "lol it can't even do hands!" thing? This tech is advancing remarkably quickly so you really need to construct a stronger argument against it's use than just pointing out its current limitations

This story is crazy. The fact that people assumed the Cash App founder was killed by a violent homeless person. The fact that he was stabbed by a fellow tech exec instead. The fact that people let him bleed out bc they were presumably scared that he himself was homeless/violent ?

It is an extraordinarily clear case of public corruption and judges are not above the law. Just arrest and prosecute him

A key thing to understand about the @ProPublica story on Clarence Thomas' undisclosed real estate deal: Thomas made MANY other disclosures that year—teaching fees, travel reimbursement, a $530 stained glass medallion—but not the property sale to Crow. propublica.org/article/claren
Page from Clarence Thomas' 2014 Financial Disclosure Report. Under "Non-Investment Income" he lists teaching income from Notre Dame Law ($7500), George Washington U. ($10K), Univ. Georgia Law ($9455)
Under "Spouse's Non-Investment Income" it lists unspecified salaries from The Daily Caller and Liberty Consulting Inc.
Under "Reimbursements" it lists multiple instances where schools (Notre Dame; Palm Beach Atlantic; Vanderbilt; U. Texas at Tyler; Georgia) reimbursed him unlisted amounts for transportation, meals and accommodation.
Section of Clarence Thomas' 2014 Financial Disclosure Form.
Under "Gifts" is a single item: A Yale Law School Award of merit described as "Stained glass medallion resting in an oak base with a brass plaque" and valued at $530.

This is the kind of story idea I describe as "putting the cart before the horse" to younger reporters: You IMAGINE a titillating reality and try to find examples of it instead of OBSERVING whatever reality is. Not always disingenuous, but a red flag for bias.

"I don't want the input of subject matter experts" can only be interpreted as the author formed a conclusion devoid of evidence, and is working backward from that to cherry-pick anything which can support it. Call me a snobbish Left Coast Elite, but that seems like bad journalism

Exactly, it's just an invite to get a bunch of transphobic pediatricians on the record going, "10 years ago no one was trans but now everyone is trans!!!"

The New York Times and Benjamin Ryan are writing another transphobic hit piece looking for providers who "have misgivings about gender affirming care." Providers and advocates should ignore any outreach or requests for comment from Ryan as he is another Jesse Singal.

What is a "serious" newspaper even doing using the word woke non-ironically, let alone citing an article that has not gone through peer review? Let's unpack how utterly asinine the Economist piece is.
Quote Tweet
This Economist piece relies exclusively on a pdf titled 'The Great Awokening as a Global Phenomenon', posted to arXiv on 4 April, nine days before the article was published. Anyone can post a pdf to arXiv

The only realistic positions now are structural reform of the supreme court (term limits/ more justices/ etc.) or "20 years of unalterable religious fascism" and guess which one is the median position of the democratic party

I’m genuinely astonished that we’re debating whether it’s okay to have dementia and still serve as a United States Senator. It’s possible that’s been the norm in the past. That’s not good!

Taking a step back, what we have is a system where SCOTUS justices are groomed and rewarded by an an extremely wealthy ideological network, and our intellectual elite is so intertwined with said network that the only scandal they can comprehend is criticism by the hoi polloi.

what you gain from listening to the audio is how unprepared he sounds when asked to think about the more complex side of content moderation (which requires having a value system and creating policies — whatever they may be — that uphold that system). reminiscent of somebody else!
