One of the greatest impediments to improving this country is the generation of older liberals who have internalized bad-faith conservative criticism.https://twitter.com/JeffreyToobin/status/1427349330516717569 …

Consequences for high-level government officials is an extremely important component of the rule of law. It's only 'politicizing' the justice system if the accusations are false. Trump did an unbelievable amount of bad and illegal stuff!pic.twitter.com/Wk6zYmuMnB

Iran-Contra is the canonical example of how incoherent this argument is. George HW Bush pardoned the organizers of a conspiracy in which he himself participated! Absurd to think that represents a triumph of principle over partisanship.https://twitter.com/NataliasDad/status/1427899013064495105 …

5-4 just did a show about Stephen Breyer and it's the same Boomer Dem nonsense: Total refusal to acknowledge or engage with America's political reality. These people are watching democracy die and all they can do is say it couldn't possibly be happeninghttps://twitter.com/fivefourpod/status/1427607375838646272 …

One thing they note in the 5-4 episode is that Breyer says he likes being a Supreme Court justice for the intellectual challenge. No reason to take seriously how he impacts other people, it's all just a game of Words With Friends.https://twitter.com/Nfinit/status/1427979244462874626 …

Nixon was pardoned; Reagan was protected from Iran-Contra; Bush was saved by a need to ‘move on’. No consequences means lessons are never learned and incentives to re-offend are amplified.

I'd argue that visible elite impunity gives citizens the (correct) impression there's one set of laws for them, and another set for politicians. Which is antithetical to a democracy! You NEED to prosecute misdeeds of politicians as a matter of urgency to preserve your democracy

I would contend that "wisely avoided this cycle" is really whistling past the graveyard

Thank God we only had a deranged mob breach the Capitol!

The fear that people would equate legitimate, neutral, fact-based prosecution of Trump with politicized persecution of political enemies started the minute Trump said "Lock Her Up."
