Still a big impact storm -- starts today ~5 to 6 p.m. for GTA -- I like this model for total snow amounts (ECMWF Global 9 km) shows 15-20 cm downtown Toronto (milder by the lake means lower snow ratios) with higher amounts (20-30 cm) as you head north towards 401/407. #onstorm

Still a surprising amount of uncertainty with this snow forecast, especially for SW Ontario and Hamilton to Niagara where rain could mix in. Heaviest snow rates will be from about 8pm to midnight in the GTA and combine with 70km/h wind gusts. Fun!!! #ONstorm

Here we go widespread Winter Storm Watch for GTHA and 401 corridor between London and Kingston for Friday eve. into Sat. a.m. EC mentions 15-20 cm of snow along with strong easterly winds "will create significantly reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions". #onstorm

We should get a clearer picture on details as the day progresses and new model runs come in but still big bust potential with this one!

2. Lowest 1 km of the atmosphere (where models tend to have the most difficulty) could make or break accumulation amounts due to a wedge of warmer air.

Why is Friday's #onstorm so difficult to forecast for GTA/Southern ON?
1. Very steep gradient where ~50 km can be the difference between a significant amount of snow (20-30 cm) or a messy mix with far less accumulation (10-15 cm).

Still uncertainty re: Texas Low that barrels towards Southern ON/GTHA by Fri. eve. - widespread model disagreement re: snow amounts - some show as low as 10 cm others up to 30 cm. Will depend on exact track and how much warm air lifts north (mixing?). Details tomorrow! #onstorm

New week, new winter storm. Snow moves in late afternoon and could be heavy for a couple hours around dinner in the GTA. 5-10cm along with gusty winds followed by some ice pellets and freezing drizzle. More icing to the SW where freezing rain warnings are in place. #ONStorm

ICE UPDATE 🧊 | We won’t be able to open the #RideauCanal Skateway this winter. Despite our best efforts, the weather got the best of us for the first time in our history. 🥲
