It's actually pretty easy to boycott Amazon. Buy your books from a bookstore or the publisher. Get your groceries from a regular grocery store or supermarket. Pass on a Prime account. Your life doesn't change much and you help the world in a small way

For people who wanted to shovel away billions in tax revenue for an Amazon HQ, no, the jobs created there would not be helping NY's unemployment crisis. The restaurant and tourism industries are decimated. Out of work waiters or bartenders aren't working at Amazon.

Obvious point I should make is I support the government ending Amazon's monopoly. In the meantime, use your purchasing power elsewhere

While I'm quite aware that almost anything for sale on Amazon is effectively available elsewhere, it's also the case that Amazon has introduced a vast set of efficiencies with Prime, its customer service & the size of its catalog. (I don't order books or groceries there, tho)

The only other online store that is comparable right now seems to be Walmart, another company I'm loathe to give money to. I do wonder, though, if Amazon (the store) would be exposed by efficiencies in e-commerce that are increasingly adopted by smaller merchants

A boycott is an ineffectual waste of time, practically impossible to organize and would solve nothing. Getting a job at a warehouse and organizing a union would be a million times more helpful.
