I have replaced one of the ’ eyes with plastic googly eyes! Can you guess which one? A, B, C or D? It’s difficult because Adelie penguins all look like they have fake, comedy eyes! 👀

Not sure I’ve got the proportions quite right this year. Still need to find space for the turtle, fish and sloth... 🐋🦈

Here's an email my supervisor wrote while I was in the Valley of Shit, 2 years into my PhD. He was right. Everyone needs a cheerleader. If you are in the Valley of Shit w/ a mutinous part of your brain, please know you're doing great. Don't give up!

Killer whales feed at a lower trophic level than polar bears, yet their levels of DDT are 150x higher. Rune Dietz explains this is due to their reduced metabolic ability to deal with fat soluble contaminants, causing worrying levels of human exposure in Greenland

"It's a tragic irony that juvenile porpoises are being exposed to a toxic cocktail of chemicals during feeding—when all they're supposed to be getting are the vital nutrients they need for the crucial developmental stage of their life" -

Annual estimates: 500 cetaceans, 50 dugongs, 1500 sea turtles, 300,000 sharks and 4 million rays. Staggering numbers that include Endangered and Vulnerable species that require immediate attention.

disrupt energy balance in seal pups such that at current UK levels the smallest pups could be 10% heavier than they currently are. This can affect survival as they have depleted blubber reserves to mitigate starvation. Great talk by

Heart breaking recounting of porpoise entanglement during fine-scale behavioural study, where the porpoise died & then an accompanying porpoise remained at the net for hours, continually calling. Desperately sad insight into the wider conspecific impact of bycatch

4 MILLION cetaceans are likely to have been bycaught in Indian Ocean tuna gillnet fisheries from 1950-2016. Jaw dropping presentation by Charles Anderson. IOTC & countries urgently need to act on this data

has kicked off! 🐬🐳 Fascinating plenary on marine mammals & climate change. The ocean has absorbed >90% of excess heat in the climate system. Sea ice loss is changing the soundscape in the Arctic, through shipping and reduced dampening of wind, impacting communication
