Here's an example of how I used to game multiple choice questions: When did de Klerk become president of South Africa? A. 8/89 B. 9/88 C. 9/89 D. 8/98 Without even reading the question, you can guess the answer from the configuration of options (try before reading on!) (1/4)

3 cups flour, 2 tsp salt, half tsp yeast, 1.5 cups warm water. Mix in bowl. Cover and leave overnight. In the morning, shape dough into ball and leave for 30mins. Heat oven to 450F. Cook in a covered pot for 30mins, then uncovered for 10mins. 🍞

Omg guys I tried making no-knead bread and it turned out better than I could have imagined. I was so skeptical but it was probably some of the best bread I've ever eaten and so easy. Recipe in reply 👇

Are you sick of reading lists of AI ethics principles, and keen to figure out how to actually implement them? My colleague has created a design-thinking tool to help close the gap between principles and practice. If you work in AI, please consider contributing!

Cool short paper on the false dichotomy between 'near-term' & 'long-term' AI safety considerations. Authors suggest a more helpful model with four different dimensions: capabilities, impacts, certainty and extremity, which all sit on a spectrum.

I assume it's an attempt to appeal to both sides of the Atlantic? I quite like it but it's kind of surreal. I guess the word I'm looking for is anatopistic

Noticing a trend on Netflix of TV shows set in the UK but with American aesthetics (e.g. no school uniform, letterman jackets, 50s style diners, etc). Examples include Sex Education and The End of the F***ing World

What I suspect in reality is that different approaches work for different people, but that most of our attention has gone towards rules-based approaches (perhaps because they are more straightforward) and we could benefit from more innovative ideas for intuitive approaches

If intuitive eating is real and works, I wonder if similar principles can also help us work *with* our internal motivation for more sustainable and pleasant work practices, rather than constantly trying to override it in the pursuit of short-term productivity

Perhaps binging Netflix when you know you should be working is the equivalent of binging food to rebel against an oppressive eating regime

My intuition is that in both cases these strict approaches can be useful tools, but that perhaps they can interfere with our ability to listen to what our bodies need, to potentially detrimental effect

A lot of this feels like it has parallels in diet culture (restricting certain foods, eating only at certain times, counting calories/macros etc)

Whereas I feel like a lot of productivity advice involves strict rules that aim to override our inclinations, e.g. blocking distracting apps, following habit checklists, pomodoros that instruct you when to work and when to rest regardless of how you're feeling, etc

We kind of do this with sleep already - pretty much everyone now accepts that we all need different amounts of sleep, and that it's better to listen to your natural body clock than force yourself to be a morning person if you're not

I'm reading a book on intuitive eating (i.e. rejecting restrictive eating rules in favor of listening carefully to your body's satiety cues) and am wondering where else it might be wise to apply this concept
