    Happy 175th Anniversary to the , launched 19th July 1843. This photograph, taken in 1844, attributed to William Henry Fox Talbot is the first photo of a ship afloat. She's is a trailblazing photographic pioneer. Read more here:

    Here's another - two images taken months apart to catch different libration of the moon but in the same phase. Howlett provided the sensitive collodion to capture the moon. He then copied De la Rue's negatives into glass positives for back lit display.

    Wow, we really take those early photographs for granted. Great to hear giving a sense of the work, skill and improvisation involved in capturing those extraordinary engineering moments.

    Another great reception for Brunel in photographs. Great to see the enthusiasm of engineers and photographers discussing the challenges of the past and future. Thanks to the superb for their excellent facilities and support.

    There aren't many more spectacular venues for a Brunel themed talk than Ashtorre Rock, Saltash. Robert Howlett climbed to the top to produce some of the photos I showed tonight. Thanks to the organisers and those showing real Cornwall hospitality. I'll be back!
