"BuT "mRs. DoUbTfIrE wAsN't AbOuT a TrAnS wOmAn!!!" Neither was Ace Ventura, or Silence of the Lambs, or any of the other myriad of other movies where anyone other than cisgender women even PRESENTING as women is shown as disgusting or terrifying. Cultural impact > the text.

I think a distinction needs to be made here between transphobia that is INTENDED to harm trans people and transphobia that plays on stereotypes, tropes, and cultural references that cause people to associate feminine presentation outside of cisnormativity as deranged or gross.

With that said, I can't imagine an R rated movie where a man is literally fooling everyone into thinking he is a woman for most of the runtime wouldn't be filled to the brim with that stuff, whether intended to hurt the trans community or not.

I loved Robin Williams and I don't hate the original movie of Mrs. Doubtfire. But I also know what kind of jokes about crossdressing, genderplay, and deviation from cisnormativity were """""""okay"""""" in the early 90s.

Ugh, I was excited about the prospect but I don't see how you are not 100% right.
