Have you tried it on an actual NES? There are cartridge adapters. I think that would be so cool!

There are at least a couple of repro cart options out there (with uploaders), but I don't even have a real NES right now! Maybe some day I'll have something worth buying the hardware for

I'm a bit old for entry level positions in programming with so many much cleverer young people out there. Also, no. No git repo. I never really feel anything I make is worth sharing. Most of the time it's just little experiments and game mechanic ideas

That's super cool. It's my dream to do art for a retro game but I kinda wished I learned to program instead of draw.

I commend you for having the patience to learn Assembly. I had to study it a bit in school for Security and it was less than enjoyable.

I'm sure you're just wanting to learn stuff, but in case you're more interested in just making NES games, have you heard of NES maker?

I have, and I considered it, and I might use it if I want to prototype quickly in the future, but I decided that it is lacking in some features I consider pretty essential to many of the great NES games (like no vertical scrolling that I could find)
