On Netanyahu's "judicial reform", which Israeli resisters are referring to as no less than an “autocoup".

New poll indicates relative stability in Israel: Slight 2-seat drop for Likud in favor of Gantz's party. But again, potentially wasted below-threshold Oppo votes: Meretz is in, but now Labor out (2.4%), and Balad still out (1.8%).
"Smotrich told Arab Israeli Knesset members that they were 'here by mistake because Ben Gurion didn’t finish the job and throw you out in 1948.' Ben-Gvir has spoken of the desire to encourage Arabs to leave the country." By

"Assault on the Judiciary: Inside Netanyahu’s Plan to Establish and Dominate an Illiberal Israel" - which has elicited comparisons to Orbán’s Hungary, Erdoğan’s Turkey, even Putin’s Russia.

Asked what forms of protest would be effective, 82% cited demonstrations; 51% - strikes; 35% - blocking entrances to public, gov't buildings; 35% - blocking roads for a few hours; 22% - refusal to pay taxes; 18% - refusing to report for IDF reserve duty.
Financial institutions had grave concerns during the Second Intifada, too - I was interviewed at the time by such a geopolitical risk investigator - but never issued this type of warning.
Netanyahu's plan will have far-reaching implications, both inside Israel proper and in the oPt. Delighted that three experts in the field, whose work I admire, agreed to take part and break it all down. Hope you can tune in next week!

This isn't some abstract statement. Banks spend serious amounts of investigative time/energy/cash researching how political trends could impact their bottom line.
The protest against Netanyahu’s plans to eviscerate the Supreme Court coming from more unexpected quarters. Open letter from 139 recipients of the Israel Defense Prize, a quarter of whom cannot even use their real names, in an open letter tonight against the plan HT

There have been positive developments in the Jewish American community in terms of deromanticizing Israel. But the process will get an "incomplete" if they don't start to connect it to 55-years of undemocratic rule in the Occupied Territories.
I often disagreed with Rabbi Golub z"l, sometimes vehemently, but he was generous enough to host me on his JBS program on several occasions and allow me to share a viewpoint that wasn't popular with most of his audience. That's not something to be dismissed. Y'hi zichro baruch.
"I won’t live a day under a dictatorship,” said David Hodek, who won a Medal of Courage for his conduct in the 1973 War. “If someone dares to force me to live in a dictatorship, and I have no other choice — I will fight against him with live fire.”
Founder of hi-tech Verbit, Tom Livne, says he and his company's "hundreds of millions of tax dollars" are leaving Israel. Encourages others to do so. "When the engine of the economy takes these steps, I think they'll come to the table."
Netanyahu issues directives for dealing with people who express "support for terrorism". Problem is, the word "terrorism" is often used to describe a whole set of nonviolent actions that most non-Israelis would never think of as "terrorism".

While ostensibly this is a technical/consular issue, ending visa requirement at this moment in time would be a huge domestic-political gift that Biden/Blinken would be handing Israel's most-far-right government ever. Hope they're keeping that in mind.
The family of the perpetrator, and of today’s Shabbat synagogue massacre in Jeruslaem, any any surviving accomplices, will receive a bounty from the Palestinian Authority. It is not enough to condemn “terrorism.” One must recognize that the PA is guilty
of mass nursed-for-hire.
Ben-Gvir goes to attack site, hears "This is on your watch". Ben-Gvir has no solution, of course, so he'll probably need to redirect anger at Netanyahu, blame him for not doing enough. Netanyahu will take credit for being a "moderating influence". That's their division of labor.
poll: 43% reject all of Netanyahu's 'judicial reform' vs. 19% who support it all. 20% say they support some, not all. 18% don't know. Even among RW respondents, full support is only a plurality, <40%, far from a majority.
poll offers a differently worded Q and, ergo, a different result - but still one that undermines Netanyahu's claims of representing the majority. 44% oppose his 'reform' of the judiciary; 39% support; 17% don't understand the issue. https://maariv.co.il/news/politics/Article-975868…
Only 19% of Israelis polled say they support Netanyahu's plan for the judiciary as-is. 59% back a "compromise". 39% said "they didn't realize when they voted that the proposed reform is on the agenda".
Due to Netanyahu's plans to "harm democracy and the economy, we made a business decision at Papaya Global to withdraw all of the company's funds from Israel." This is "a painful but necessary business step."
If legal authority over occupied territory is being officially transferred into the hands of a non-military State actor - isn't that actually de jure annexation?
What did Margon do that was "anti-Israel"?
* Supported differentiation of sovereign Israel from Occupied Territory by praising Airbnb's (temporary) decision not to list rentals in Settlements
* Retweeted Beinart saying 2SS isn't realistic (even though she believes in 2SS herself)
How bad was Democratic turnout in New York last November?

Might be dating myself, but Likud's liberals were once folks like Dan Meridor, Miki Eitan, Roni Milo, Meir Sheetrit. Now, apparently, Yuli Edelstein (who vowed to defy the High Court), Gila Gamliel, Avi Dichter, Ofir Akunis are as "liberal" as Likud gets.
Here's how I see it: Survey shows that over 3/4 of all Americans know that millions of Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. I'd say that's fairly impressive. But, then again, I don't have to fundraise based on these findings.
Almost 80 years of Holocaust research confirms that 6 million Jews were killed by Nazis.
This is a fact.
Findings like the one below from our upcoming survey underline the need for more education and awareness.
