I actually disagree with this. The reason? Before the law was enacted, people who possessed marijuana were committing a crime...and they knew it. It’s not the crime they committed, but the fact that they were violating the law and didn’t care that is the issue.

Upholding an unjust law, which was enacted unethically and enforced unevenly, detracts from overall respect for laws, as such. That'd be true even if the U.S. imprisonment industry were fit for purpose, which it is not. I support Wyden's program & hope it succeeds federally.
-
I am influenced in my feelings about this by having lived through the 1988 de-criminalization of homosexual relationships (similar penalties, very different situation - and obviously, not in the U.S.).

Good shit, Ron
-
Ron is pretty spot on, tbh...Paper ballots, voter suppression, criminal justice reform, marijuana, immigrants...dude is a pretty solid package.
-
only his position on Israel is bad as far as i know (he supported that bill that would make participation in a boycott against israel a felony or something) but otherwise hes alright

glad see, for the first time Sen. Wyden that I agree with you. don't put a massive tax to start. Use OR and CO as Examples. 13.5%-25% progressive tax. I Hope that congress can together, for once, to do something that will make an impact. Revenue for the states will be the impact

No, because it was a violation of the law and people who otherwise might have profited such as by selling drugs but abstained are held to the same standard as someone who abused the law.
-
As a tax payer, I'd rather not pay for their stay in prison on marijuana charges. Costs a lot to house them.
-
The issue is about records being expunged.
-
As a taxpayer, I'd rather expunge their records of marijuana convictions than have them roaming the streets, possibly collecting welfare and unable to find gainful employment due to their criminal records.

Heck yes. Making marijuana illegal was stupid and wrong. Absolutely vacate all convictions and expunge their records.
