(Bloomberg) -- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the U.S. budget deficit is "disturbing" and spending on entitlement programs must be addressed by both Republicans and Democrats.

Republican play book 101. Cut taxes and make the country insolvent, then cut Americans retirements and healthcare. Mitch McConnell has a safe six figure retirement and single payer healthcare. Are you mad as hell. Please vote to stop the republican thieves! Vote them out!

Social security is a scam that politicians dip their hands into with the promise of “paying it back later.” My advice to anyone younger than 40: be fiscially responsible and DONT plan on social security existing when you retire. Start saving now. The government doesn’t care.

You can't. But you can start your own savings account. You would have to put 2x as much in, if you were basing it on SS deductions since your employer puts in half. If you put in $20, they put in $20. Same with Medicare.

The employer is responsible for half of your social security tax burden, the employee is still paying for it in lost wages. The only way to stop the deductions would be to opt out which is possible. However you cannot re-enter the system again, and all you’ve put in is forfeited

And I hear it’s an absolute pain to opt out of social security. You’d think the government would want less people in it, but my guess is they make it hard to opt out to cut back on people cheating the system

The deficit increases no matter which administration is in office. The Congress needs to get a handle on spending, period. I don't have any faith that a democratic majority would address the deficit.

Scare tactics won't work. Election of Democrats will not change need for entitlement reform which has been needed for many years now. Democrats will want to substantially increase taxes that will kill the economy and throw people out of work & on to unemployment.

It would be helpful for you to tell people the direct implications to what you mean by SS, et al being "on the ballot". The people your trying to influence need to FEEL the impact, not know about -- it's easy to dismiss knowledge -- feeling personal impact is different.
