Abraham Lincoln never told an esteemed reporter, "Don't talk to me that way! . . .I’m the President of the United States. Don't ever talk to the President that way!"

You’re not even close. Lincoln had 2 reporters arrested for a phony story they claimed Lincoln signed off on. Sedition during war time is a little different than what you described.

Lincoln was in the middle of a civil war. He interpreted his presidential powers as CiC giving him the authority to do as needed to save the Union. We view Lincoln as our greatest president so we evidently think saving the Union was worth limiting press freedom at that time!

@BeschlossDC is the perfect specimen of how overvalued and downright unintelligent the “pundit class” truly is. I got my first taste of the thin veneer of assumed intelligence when I attended my first county board meeting and realized I was the smartest human in the room.Thanks. Not necessarily the same thing. They could have been reporting on something completely unrelated to the gov't or president. Presidents do basically do this whenever they are questioned n default to if you knew what I knew etc etc
