Official response from Qualcomm PR:
"Qualcomm will support the launch version + 3 OS upgrades, for a total of 4 major Android OS versions. Snapdragon 888 will support Android 11, 12, 13, and 14. "
So three years of major OS updates, and four years of security updates.

That is much clearer. It's the same three years of updates you currently get with Pixels, +1 more year of security updates.

"As part of this collaboration with Google, Qualcomm Technologies will now support four Android OS versions and four years of security updates"
So that's three (not four) years of major OS updates and four years of security updates.
Right?

So what happened to the whole 5 years of kernel support, wasn't that supposed to make it so that QC could support the chip for 5 years?

Devices don't launch with new kernels. That "5 years" includes the development time of the SoC and phone.
