”We’ve created a political culture that has people taking pride in how nastily intolerant they can be- where rage is the paramount civic and personal virtue, and kindness is nothing more than collaborating with the enemy. What is anyone getting out of it?”

  2. In the future, federal officials should follow the Justice Department’s nonpartisan 2018 cyber strategy and warn the public about covert foreign influence schemes without worrying about politics. Prevent crime whenever you can.

  3. When Baltimore City prosecutors and police worked with federal and state partners to send every violent repeat offender to prison in 2011, only 197 people were murdered. Now criminals murder 350 victims and shoot hundreds more every year. WHAT CHANGED?

  4. “Military cyber officials are developing information warfare tactics that could be deployed against senior Russian officials and oligarchs if Moscow tries to interfere in the 2020 US elections through hacking election systems or sowing widespread discord.”

  6. “Since becoming FBI Director in August 2017, I have emphasized to FBI agents, analysts, and staff the importance of doing things the right way, by the book.”

  7. “The U.S. Department of Justice is filled with decent, ethical, honorable and admirable people. An organization with 115,000 employees cannot be error-free. But we correct mistakes and punish wrongdoers, using professional nonpartisan internal watchdogs.”

  9. Kudos to the career federal agents and prosecutors: "[T]his year’s record number of individual Foreign Corrupt Practices Act charges and guilty pleas builds on 2017 and 2018, previously the two biggest years for those categories of cases." Justice always!

  10. Happy Thanksgiving! “There will always be adversaries who work to exacerbate domestic differences and try to confuse, divide, and conquer us. So long as we are united in our commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution, they will not succeed.”

  11. “Our unanimous conclusion was this: The truth matters. At a time when so much of our public discourse is based on deception or just lies, it is more important than ever that we still have places where the truth can be presented, examined and discerned.”

  12. "We think it’s critical that governments and the private sector are increasingly transparent about nation-state activity so we can all continue the global dialogue about protecting the internet.... You can protect yourself from these types of attacks."

  13. “Russia is waging an information warfare campaign against the U.S. that didn’t start and didn’t end with the 2016 election," said Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC). “Their goal is broader: to sow societal discord and erode public confidence in government.”

  14. “There was overwhelming evidence Russian operatives hacked American computers and defrauded American citizens, and it is only the tip of the iceberg of a comprehensive Russian strategy to influence elections, promote social discord, and undermine America”

  16. Happy Constitution Day! On September 17, 1787, Constitutional Convention delegates met at Independence Hall to sign the founding document that requires jury trials and now due process, protecting Americans from being imprisoned for their political views.

  18. We do not vote or take polls to decide who goes to jail. Prosecutors consider charges only if credible witnesses and admissible evidence make it likely that an unbiased judge and 100% of jurors will agree beyond any reasonable doubt. It is an important protection against tyranny.

  19. This pundit has the right approach - read and decide for yourself - although she does not quote a source. (Nobody in the chain recommended an indictment.) AG Barr released the report, so everybody can critique the decision he is accountable for making.

  20. Check out this double-negative logic: "no reason to believe the others in the .. chain of command weren’t compromised by Trump’s corruption and efforts to end the investigation" -- ignoring the fact that EVERY agent and prosecutor was still working on it.
