And that reason is that historically, victims were first assumed to be lying. Especially female victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, and not for reasons of "innocent until proven guilty."

This whole Amber Heard thing is just truly horrible. It's horrible. While I've never felt fully comfortable with the whole "Believe Women" line, on account of it feeling too close to the Satanic Panic "Believe the children" thing, there is a *reason* for it.

Because we actually do live in a society where one asshole lying about domestic violence is going to hurt actual victims of it. That shouldn't be the case, but it is.

By doing what she did, she not only fucked with Johnny Depp's life in an absolutely horrid and cruel way, but she made things a little harder for DV victims. She made it a little harder for people to come forward. She gave ammo to the people who always assume women are lying.

I am not fully up - to - date here but (unless I am missing something) I don't see how her admission makes her other claims false.

The way it came across in the audio was that she was the only one getting physical. I don't see how you would have a whole conversation with someone who abused you about hitting them and throwing pans at their head without also saying something about them hitting *you*

Audio was released of her admitting to physically abusing *him*, which also very much suggested that she was the only violent one in that relationship.

I can kinda relate to this one. My ex-wife was physically abusive to me and a big part of why it went on so long is that she threatened to call the police and claim that I beat her if I ever tried to stop her or said anything. But I still think most claims by women are legit.

female on male violence differently. One is a societal problem that needs addressing on a wide scale. One is personal tragedy that needs to be dealt with on a personal level. No abuse should be allowed to happen - but one is a little more urgent of an issue at present.
