Iowa caucus-goers want a candidate who is both: 1. “more moderate than most Democrats” and 2. “Promises fundamental systematic change to American society” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/25/us/politics/democratic-iowa-poll-sanders.html …pic.twitter.com/rjUIFZ0TRX

Also most Iowa polling has found a bigger advantage for “beating Trump” over “agrees with you on issues” than 49% to 48%.

I don't think the first choice between "politics back to normal in DC" and "fundamental systematic change" is especially well-formulated.

The real problem is the introduction of DC in the first choice. No one likes DC. The better formulation would be simply between "Restore normalcy" (generally, not just in DC) and "Introduce structural change" or something along those lines.

They should ask if Iowa voters want a sticky president or a sour one

They want fundamental change from someone who is perceived as moderate and therefore electable ... Honestly, this shows the growing rift in the party, between incremental change and a “radical” shift.

How many more generations of black and brown people should live in generational poverty before white rural Americans will be ready for a "radical" shift?

Basically - make sweeping changes to society but make sure you center white people while doing it.
