On stream last night Mandalore asked how I felt about Factorio's policy of never going on sale, and I think I mentioned this before, but I feel it's great because you as a customer can feel confident it won't suddenly get discounted or bundled a month later, which often happens.pic.twitter.com/yUOY9n7EDC

It often feels as if there's a race to the bottom with indie game prices, and while this is terrible for developers, it's pretty awful for customers as well if they don't feel confident purchasing a game because they've felt burned on a game that was swiftly discounted/bundled.

Jason Rohrer did a good write up about this in 2014. http://thecastledoctrine.net/seedBlogs.php?action=display_post&post_id=jasonrohrer_1389812989_0&show_author=1&show_date=1 … It feels like people are being trained to avoid buying even games we like at launch, since it won't be long before they're on sale for 50% off.

Love this approach for early access games. It means you price the game what it’s worth at that moment. It means consumers aren’t buying promises - they’re paying for exactly what they’re getting.

100% this. The last game I bought at launch was hitman 2. I really want to get number 3, but given the confusion over whether or not pc players could import their steam progress and the £50 price tag which is a cost I can't justify, I've had to skip it for the time being
