it’s disheartening to learn that creators who chose not to “play the game” and beg for people to click the notification bell are ultimately being punished.

It provides more options! Someone might want to see all videos in their subs feed, but not get notified about every upload from every single subscription (especially if they have A LOT). The bell gives channel-level options: receive none, occasional, or all notifications.

Although I do disagree with how subscribing =(sometimes content?) and notifications =all content.
Is there any social media platform that is not like this? I cant think of one platform that does not operate this way. (Twitch, Instagram, Twitter, FB etc are all already like this)
