In a congressional hearing discussing banning members of Congress from trading and owning stocks, Rep Loudermilk argues against new rules by saying we have laws against murder, but people still get murdered

Did not expect the hearing on whether members of Congress should be able to own stocks to turn into a debate on whether we should have…any laws?

The only way to stop a bad guy with a stock is a good guy with a stock

So they are just regurgitating their talking point about guns. if we ban guns, bad people will still get them.

Same guy who made this ridiculous argument last week defending bank overdraft fees…

Feels like a hearing out of the 1950s.
Congressman from Georgia: Why are there more overdraft fees in minority communities?
Answer: Because they’re low-income communities + it’s hard to keep up with inflation
Congressman: Well, I made $50,000 years ago and I never overdrafted

If laws are worthless then why do we need......lawmakers? It seems like he's inadvertently arguing against the need for himself to be employed. I reassert my opinion that there should be an IQ test for Congress. I know all the reasons why they're shouldn't and I still want one.

Yeah, they still murder, but then we can put them in jail for it, because we have laws against it!
I like the idea of putting lawmakers in jail for insider trading, how about you?

We have rules about insider trading. Maybe Loudemilk should be investigated.

Aaaaaand those people get punished? Always nice to see a lawmaker thumb his nose at the purpose of having laws to deter activity
