Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer who was beheaded by the Nazis in 1943 for refusing to take a military oath to Hitler, was beatified in 2007. The faith and courage of his wife Franziska, who died 3/16/2013, also deserves memory. My reflection in

This movie seized my heart in ways I cannot describe….I was “with”Franz as he waited in the anteroom for his execution — felt the grief of Franziska & great stress of bearing up under such sorrow & shunning & endless hard labor…..their faith & witness staggers me…

And that is a beautiful, beautiful film, one of the rare films that take goodness seriously.
