Italian priest Lorenzo Milano was tried for insulting the Fatherland by defending conscientious objectors. The world is divided between oppressed and oppressors, he said. “The former are my Fatherland.” He died if leukemia on 6/261967 while his acquittal was under appeal.

Hugely influential in Italy, but I don’t think much about him in English, except about his pedagogical theories. I learned about him from coverage in the Catholic Worker.
