That being so, why has the Church not modified the liturgy to lessen this? Or at least fixed the translations?! For example, by changing “the Jews” to “the temple authorities” or something more nuanced ?

This is actually the precise opposite intent of the cross...that is, to critque and expose scagegoating and so called *redemptive* violence.
