I was born on the feast of St Lucy, commonly depicted with her eyeballs on a platter. (Don’t ask.) A happier tradition in Scandinavia where girls wearing a crown of candles serve coffee and cake. I failed to convince my daughters this would be safe and fun to practice at home.
