william barr an honoree at the national catholic prayer breakfast? thanks, & for caving to power, for not asking all of us as people of faith to reckon with white supremacy. nice job silencing an article that would make us think harder about this.

The handling of this story by was no doubt bungled. But it had nothing to do with "caving to power" or failure to challenge people of faith "to reckon with white supremacy"--as should be obvious to anyone familiar with work of or any issue of Sojourners.

I second Jason’s question. I’m curious, genuinely (not goading or being snarky!) at what alternate explanation seems more plausible?

i think he articulates why it IS so troubling. we shouldnt have to trust that caving to power didnt occur bc we like this institution. it should be visible in their actions. the clarification post suggests that either a misread of the article or a post-hoc justification occurred.

Fair enough. A more complete explanation will be forthcoming. Wait for it.

In explanation part 2, Wallis references "conversation with... many of our longtime and trusted friends including within the Catholic community" What did these trusted Catholics say? Who are these Catholic friends of Sojourners opposed to what Martin wrote?

I've been praying to Dan Berrigan (certainly a longtime Catholic friend of Sojourners) for clarity and a just resolution. As of today I'm adding Bishop Pedro Casaldáliga as an intercessor. Rest in Power Dom Pedro.
