Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to design a church in Barcelona, which became the Basilica of the Holy Family. He worked on this project with single-minded devotion for 43 years, until he was struck by a streetcar and died on June 10 1926.
Conversation
The Basilica was not just an expression of his artistic vision, but of his religious faith. In his last months he slept on a cot in the church. He has been proposed as a candidate for canonization. Work on the Basilica continues. "Beauty is the image of truth."
His designs are breathtaking.
A curiously timely fact from his life (per Wiki): he was beaten a few times by police, and also arrested, during peaceful demonstrations.
