It is possible (likely?) that Trump will be defeated in Nov. But even if there is a peaceful transfer of power, that will not be the end of Trumpism—a corrosive acid that has been injected into our cultural bloodstream. It will require years of reckoning and national detox.

That's an interesting point. If he loses, for the movement to continue going forward they will have to find another candidate that is as vitriolic and narcissistic as he is. It's not impossible, but it isn't necessarily an easy sell.

They don’t need a new leader. They will always have Trump and the legend of the “lost cause.”

Yes, and none of that will happen unless there is significant national will in that direction, along with effective leadership. Imo, the restoration of health will require, first of all, the restoration of the Fairness Doctrine and the de-licensing of Fox News.

In this age of such division aided by Trump's harsh ignorance, I wonder how the Catholic Church will respond going forward. Under Francis ...will American prelates strive to be pastors or stay mired in the comfort of being princes in a false kingdom? Where is the Cross?

There is no outcome in November where Trumpism goes away. We could hope for a Dem sweep that gives solid majorities in each house but Trumpism is the current phase of a cultural sickness and the Dem platform is not a cure. Millions immerse in a toxic narrative daily...
