89th birthday of my father . Once asked if he was a “person of faith” he said “I don’t know, but I’m a person of hope.” Meaning? Despite believing in likelihood that humans will destroy themselves he has staked his life on the slim chance of averting that fate.

“It will take a miracle” he says. “But miracles happen. As long as there is life there is hope.” He has shown that hope is an action, way of living as if the impossible—or highly improbable—were possible. Sometimes it begins by speaking the truth. Happy birthday, Dad. love you!
