In Ionesco’s absurdist play “Rhinoceros” a man watches as gradually everyone in his town is transformed into a Rhinoceros. At first there are protests, but gradually everyone yields to the new reality and sees that there is, after all, nothing wrong with being a Rhinoceros.

There was a time when certain tweets and utterances caused dismay. How unprecedented! How unpresidential! Yet gradually we watch as the GOP, govt agencies, courts, military, media, even Christianity take on the features of the Rhinoceros. Is it too late?
