According to legend St. Christopher was a large man who embarked on a quest to serve "the greatest king there was." A holy hermit instructed him to provide service by carrying pilgrims across a dangerous river. One day a child asked to be ferried across on his back. . .

Christopher felt the child become impossibly heavy. Upon reaching the shore the child revealed his secret: "You had on your shoulders not only the whole world but Him who made it. I am Christ your king whom you are serving by this work."
St Christopher is not just a patron of travelers. He calls us to be Christ-bearers in all the contexts of life and history.
